How to Transfer

When hemiplegic patients transfer from a bed to a wheelchair, they use the non-hemiplegic arm and leg. Keep the wheelchair close to the bed.

  1. A patient lying in bed using the non-hemiplegic arm and leg to move toward the side of the bed

Using the non-hemiplegic arm and leg, move the body to the side of the bed in a lying position.

  2. Lowering the legs out of bed while raising the trunk

Lower the legs out of bed, raise the trunk, and sit up over the bed side.

  3. Standing up while holding the wheelchair beside the bed

Using the non-hemiplegic arm and leg, get up to a standing position while holding the wheelchair.

  4. Holding the wheelchair armrest and sitting down in the wheelchair

Go close to the wheelchair while holding it, and sit down slowly and safely in the wheelchair.
