Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)
Definition and Types
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a decline in cognitive function that, in the long run, can be a transitional stage on the way to dementia.
Mild cognitive impairment can be divided into two types:
Cognitive impairment, no dementia
Impairment in at least one of these domains: memory, language, information processing, attention, executive function, or visuospatial perception, but not severe enough to interfere with daily life.
Amnestic mild cognitive impairment
Only memory is affected.
In the long run, both types can be a transitional stage on the way to dementia.
